Han Hyun-min’s Parents And Family
Han Hyun-min was born to a Korean mother, Han Hye-jin and a Nigerian father, Awetairus in 2001. His father used to work as an export trader and changed his job to an English teacher. Han Hyung-min is the oldest son of the family. He has three younger brothers and two younger sisters.
Koreans often mistake Han Hyun-min as a foreigner because of his appearance. However, he is a genuine Korean citizen by birth and has only Korean nationality since his mother decided not to register his birth in the Nigerian embassy. His family never gave him an English or a Nigerian name.
In KBS2’s Happy Together, he revealed that he was an only son for nine years. Feeling lonely and having no one to play with, he asked his mother for a younger brother or sister. She gave birth to Jude Han, Sheila Han, Amy Han, Amos Han, and the youngest.
He was extremely happy with his younger brothers and sister. The youngest one shares the same birthday as Han Hyung Min.
Since he is a high school student, his parents manage all of his money and contracts. He said that his mother’s behavior toward him changed drastically after signing a contract as a professional model. She used to shout his name out loud but nowadays she calls him softly. They used to have soup and one side dish on the dinner table but recently his mother prepares so much food for the family members.
In MBC’s Radiostar, he explained a lot of misleading information about his family. He said that his father came to seek asylum in Korea. His Nigerian father speaks English while his mother speaks Korean. His mother translated his father’s words in Korean for Han Hyun-min and his brothers and sisters. It is the main reason he can’t speak English at all.
Due to his mother’s impatient character, she felt troublesome registering for dual citizenship and chose to register Han Hyung-min with only a Korean nationality.
